“It’s a big world!” : Tuffery jeans from Lozère return to Montpellier and think big, very big

Present last year in a pop-up store on the Place de la Comédie, the family business is perpetuating its presence in Montpellier, at 13 boulevard du Jeu-de-Paume.

“It’s a big world!” : Tuffery jeans from Lozère return to Montpellier and think big, very big

Myriam and her husband Julien Tuffery. He is the fourth generation at the head of the Florac company. Free Midday

"Frankly, we were in the middle of extension work in Florac, we were on the verge of refusing this incredible opportunity at the Comédie.&quot ; With all his passion and his sincere speech, Julien Tuffery admits: in 2023, they came to Montpellier " backwards. And then we did it. We said to ourselves: at worst, we stay eight months, we pack up and we return to Lozère. Now we don't want to leave."

"Montpellier, it’was the resonance of everything we do in the region"

The installation of Tuffery in the pop-up boutique style from June 2023 to January 2024, in the former Quick premises on the Place de la Comédie, is already a first wink of history. Fourth generation to take over the reins of the family business, Julien met his wife Myriam when they were students in Montpellier, at the Polytech engineering school.

He smiled: "At that time, of course we were going to eat burgers in this fast food place."< /em> Before becoming the boss of the place many years later. And a real boss:“We must stop with the legend : the City and the Serm gave us good conditions to come but we paid a good half of the rent. What the town hall did for us was very courageous, they were extraordinary. Afterwards of course, we made our turnover but it was well beyond that. We realized that Montpellier was the resonance of everything we do in the Cévennes and the region. We have the weaver in Tarn, the farmers who supply us with wool in Lozère, the hemp cooperative in Lot…"

Strong choices and a tight economic model

The Montpellier bet therefore worked. Julien Tuffery: "Many clients already knew the house and were thinking of coming to Florac but did not come, others knew us in Montpellier and are now coming up in Florac." Better: "Montpellier also brought us a Parisian clientele who did not come to Florac." In short: "The lights turned green. The downside is the cost. For eight years, we have been following a particular model which is based on one point: the one who manufactures must be the one who sells. We have made strong choices in terms of manufacturing in particular."

"A real prototype"

The local production system, quality, requirements… hellip; This all has a cost. As a business manager, Julien Tuffery cannot afford to go through a distributor. He has put a Tuffery sales team in the store which will open its doors this Friday at 13 boulevard du Jeu-de-Paume. An opening like a new project for this business leader who does not lack ambition: "We were thinking about it before but Montpellier was a real opportunity for us prototype which will allow us to envisage our economic development throughout France. And why not beyond. The world is big." And all this said with passion.

At 13 boulevard du Jeu-de-Paume

The Tuffery boutique will be inaugurated this Thursday at 13 boulevard du Jeu-de-Paume and will officially open its doors on Friday. It will be open Monday to Saturday.

"You will find all our products there: jeans, jackets, shirts, aprons, embroidery…, explains Julien Tuffery. But we will also organize sewing workshops, conferences, we will do alterations, tailor-made offers without having to go up to Florac."

The store covers 140 m², right opposite Nespresso.
