A ceremony in meditation

The ceremony in tribute to those who died for France in the Algerian War and the battles in Morocco and Tunisia took place at the war memorial on Tuesday March 19 marking the 62nd anniversary of the ceasefire in Algeria, in the presence of Alain Soirat, first deputy representing Mayor Patrice Planes, Denis Wyszkowski deputy delegate for citizenship and veterans, municipal councilors, the Intercommunal committee of the Fnaca Marguerittes-Rodilhan and a collected assembly.

A medal ceremony

The reading of official messages and the laying of wreaths from the Fnaca Marguerittes-Rodilhan committee and the municipal council were followed by the bell ringing, the minute of silence, the Marseillaise and the song by Serge Lama L’Algérie.

During the friendship drink, President Théodore Ricco presented an honorary diploma and a FNACA medal for services rendered and dedication to the cause of Veterans in South Africa Nord to Jean Michel, member of the intercommunal committee since 2007 and to André Vachet-Valaz on the committee since 2014. A bouquet of flowers was offered to their respective wives Michèle and Pierrette.

Memories

Jean Michel was called at the age of 20 into the Marine Infantry near Blida where he exercised, among other things, his talents as a hairdresser after successful completion of the internship. André Vachet-Valaz did his military service as a truck driver in the 379th Operational Train Regiment in Lamtar.

"I transported soldiers on operations day and night. I saw dead people but I experienced unforgettable moments of camaraderie,” said the recipient. A ceremony of remembrance full of sharing and emotion.
