La Scène de Bayssan celebrates jazz for its 2nd festival

Three days, from February 2 to 4, dedicated to this music of sharing and celebration with essential or unclassifiable figures of the international jazz scene.

La Scène de Bayssan is preparing its second edition of the Jazz à Bayssan festival which will take place from February 2 to 4. "The first edition was a great success last year, explained Marie-Pierre Pons, the vice-president of the departmental council of the& rsquo;Hérault in charge of culture, during the unveiling of the program. We are therefore offering this year an extensive event with new products."
Seventeen events, free and paid, are offered over the three days: eight concerts, two jazz brunches, two jazz aperitifs, a DJ set with RPH, an illustrated conference, a master class and a unique exhibition of Léon Bosc, photographer from Béziers (read below). "Beautiful female figures are highlighted, very Mediterranean", continues Marie-Pierre Pons. "The Mediterranean which also invites other corners of the world like the Caribbean", adds Bruno Houlès, the director of the Bayssan Stage . Both insisting on local creation, which is also very present during this festival. "After their beautiful evening in June in Bayssan, we are in partnership with the IGP of the & rsquo;Hérault, comments the elected official. This is an important know-how of the department. This marriage of jazz and wine is essential!"

Marion Rampal, "off the beaten track of jazz"

Among the female artists of this edition: Marion Rampal whose new album, Tissé, will be released on February 2, the day of her concert . Unclassifiable singer who "steps off the beaten track of jazz", detailed Bretrand Graeff, the deputy director of the Bayssan Stage. She will perform on Friday evening alongside Toulouse-based Philippe Leoge and his two sons and Samy Thiébault in a trio with his mixed jazz.
Exclusively female set on Saturday evening with Sandra Cipolat, an artist from Hérault who has worked on the 7th art and returns with her new project Human, a fusion of genre and style for a "feminist jazz"
. She will share the stage with Ana Carla Maza, violinist and singer. She pays homage to the popular neighborhood of Havana which saw her grow up with traditional Cuban music between salsa and tango. Ana Carla Maza will also lead a master class. Sandra Maké is the third, soul diva, who will be at Bayssan with her album Scars. The end of the evening with RPH will have a dancing Latin jazz tone.

Léon Bosc, photographer from another era

The Jazz &agrave festival Bayssan will be the opportunity to (re)discover the photos of L&on Bosc, photographer from Béziers, founder of the Hot Club de Béziers, in a unique exhibition. Serge Casero will present "this treasure thanks to & Robert Valat of the Hot Club de France who inherited from the bottom". "These images are testimony to another era, one where the musicians were on stage acoustically with no or very little microphone, and no feedback. These are photos taken very close which bring to life musicians from the local scene but also big names like Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald." To discover & ;agrave; the Di Rosa space of the Bayssan Scene.

Finally, on Sunday, after a musical stroll in the morning and a jazz brunch with the Hérault street band Ocso, the Albanian, Elina Duni, “with a remarkable voice”, will perform as a duo in the chapel Saint-Félix with guitarist Rob Luft. The closing will be entrusted to the legendary duo André Minvielle and Lionel Suarez. This pair plays all styles with talent and poetry.
