Immigration law: an expulsion

#HERAULT. The prefect of Hérault François-Xavier Lauch, announced that he had signed this Monday 5 February the first OQTF (obligation to leave French territory) resulting from the immigration law desired by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin. It concerns "a delinquent foreign national, who arrived in the territory as a minor and is now an adult, who until then benefited from protection against removal." He is "very unfavorably known to the services with seven mentions in his criminal record. He now has 30 days to leave France."

The number of the day:  189

#LOZERE.189 additional incidents of violence were recorded in Lozère between 2022 and 2023. In 2023, 2,540 crimes and misdemeanors were recorded in the least populated department in France. The elucidation rate by the police and gendarmerie services is more than 50%. The number of road deaths also increased between 2022 and 2023, from seven to eleven victims.

Mont Aigoual resorts: a season in hell

#GARD. "This season, we opened a total of fifteen days, we made two weekends", laments Denis Boissière, co-manager of the Alti-Aigoual station. And to explain the difficulties that arise from it. "We have eight full-time employees, seasonal contracts… And we can’t get there. to bring into play technical unemployment. All this is added to the explosion in electricity prices, insurance, etc. If a ski resort like ours closes, we won't be the only ones…"

In Val d’Aigoual, "only one hotel remains", confirms the mayor Joël Gauthier. "We decided to launch a feasibility study to evolve into four-season activities. We offer hiking activities, but that's not all."

Without phone or internet since October

#GARD. Since mid-October, part of the town of Lézan has been cut off from Internet access. What more than annoys Mayor Éric Toreille, who has increased the number of reminders to the operator Orange. Since that date, nothing. "Orange uses numerous subcontractors and does not provide the means to ensure that they respect their commitments!"

A repair appointment would be set for February 22. "You realize the delays ? Four months after the incident ? " The problem is all the more worrying for the mayor since "several people have remote alarms in their homes which, since then, have not worked more. This poses a risk to their health." Orange claims to have intervened on site but is still awaiting requests for authorization from the departmental council. "My goal is for the repairs to be done by the end of this week", affirms the mayor’s interlocutor. Either by this Friday, February 9.

Aspiring engineers

#BEZIERS. Polytech Montpellier opens training for engineers in industrial engineering. It will be hosted by the IUT and open at the start of the 2025 school year, initially, to around twenty work-study students. "The opening of this training is part of the dynamic to deploy integration training to support, in Béziers, the reindustrialization and development of the green industry ", indicates Sophie Béjean, the rector of the Occitanie academic region.

It refers to the Genvia industrial project, which is currently testing, on the ex-Cameron site, in Béziers, a pilot line for manufacturing high temperature electrolyzers for the production of green hydrogen.
