Legislative elections 2024, 1st constituency of Gard: Valérie Rouverand (Renaissance) offers “an alternative to the extremes”

Valérie Rouverand, president of Renaissance Gard, is entering the legislative elections for the first constituency of Gard for the first time.

What motivated your choice to be a Renaissance candidate in this first constituency where the RN came first in the last elections&nbsp ;?

It’s a personal commitment to offer an alternative to the extremes. I place myself on the side of democracy, of a sense of responsibility, not on the side of the extremes with their lying proposals which appear in their programs. This is a serious time! We need serenity in debates, exchanges, building with the democrats.

What are your campaign themes?

The main theme is purchasing power, to continue the work carried out for our economy, for employment. We have a low unemployment rate, we have reduced employers' costs. We must continue the work and above all grasp the stakes of this election. […] There is the elimination of the housing tax, the reduction in employer contributions, the tariff shield, the recovery plan. We deserve a little more recognition.

As prime minister, we will have the choice between Gabriel Attal, Jordan Bardella or Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Do we want the extreme right or chaos with LFI ?

The polls put your side in third position. Where do you go to find voices ?

We need to talk to the abstainers. I call on the voters of the moderate left disappointed by the New Popular Front, who do not agree with the LFI program. I know that we are in one of the poorest departments in France. I am an elected official in the field.

I was in charge of city policy and education. I hear this anger on the ground but we cannot choose between the procrastination of Jordan Bardella, who demonstrates a certain incompetence, his program is an illusion, and the populism of LFI which wants to postpone retirement to 60, the Smic at  1 600 € per month. […] Our economy will be at a standstill with these programs. The middle classes will be the most impacted. It is impossible to abolish VAT as the extremes say.
