This Tuesday, June 11, in the morning, the mayor of Capestang, Pierre Polard, who lost to Stéphanie Galzy (RN) in 2022, finally announced that he would not go back into the campaign. Former MP Philippe Huppé formalizes his candidacy.

We know a little more about the candidates for the legislative elections in the 5th constituency of Hérault. This Tuesday, June 11, the mayor of Capestang, Pierre Polard, who bowed to to Stéphanie Galzy (RN) in 2022, finally announced, after a period of reflection, that he would not return to the campaign. In a press release, the elected official who left LFI to join the movement of François Ruffin, explains his choice: « Past the astonishment in which plunged us into the announcement of the dissolution by President Macron, a question arises: what to do to avoid a majority of the RN in the National Assembly? The RN has no concrete solution for the working classes. While national negotiations are still underway on the left, I regret the premature announcement of the candidacy of Aurélien Manenc. But, in responsibility, I do not wish to add an additional division by declaring myself in turn. Despite the legitimacy conferred on me by the nearly 20,000 votes collected in the second round of the legislative election in June 2022, I will not be a candidate. I obviously remain at the disposal of the left for future fights and the reconstruction to come. »

Aurélien Manenc, the mayor of Lunas, announced that he was a candidate this Monday, as he was in 2022, collecting 15.7% of the votes in the first round. A candidacy supported by the president of the Department Kléber Mesquida.

"It’s never dangerous to let democracy speak"

Finally the former deputy (2017-2022) Philippe Huppé, also already a candidate in 2022 under the banner "Together for the presidential majority" (17.07% of the vote) decides to relaunch a campaign, invested this time by the Radical Party, "of which I have chaired the Hérault Federation for 10 years" , he specifies. “I thought about it, tried to contact Aurélien Manenc, he did not answer me. So I decided to go. My hand remains outstretched towards Mr. Manenc.” The risk of repeating the scenario of a scattering of votes therefore seems present in this constituency. “But I am going to bring a voice different from the left, I want to bring the ideas of my political party, of humanism and of the Republic. It is never dangerous to let democracy speak. Voters must make a choice”, justifies the candidate who lives in Adissan and now manages a consulting company for artisans.

All will therefore face the outgoing Stéphanie Galzy. Will other contenders for the seat of deputy of the 5th constituency of Hérault declare themselves ? Answer this Sunday, June 16 in the evening, deadline for submitting applications.
