She hopes to succeed Nicolas Meizonnet and thereby put ecology back at the center of the game. Discussion with former diplomat Véronique Jullian, unsuccessful candidate for the Europeans now in the running for these legislative elections under the banner "Ecology in center".

This candidacy for deputy is a first for you. After the Europeans, why are you launching into the race?

Due to my former profession, I have long been subject to a duty of confidentiality. But now retired, I can finally satisfy this desire to mobilize in a different way. By first getting involved in politics, and today as a candidate for the legislative elections, I want to place ecology at the center of the game, because it is urgent. In my constituency as elsewhere, it has even become a vital issue!

Your political commitment began alongside the President of the Republic. Why this ultimately late "shift" towards the Ecology party in the center ?

For 7 years in fact, I was a leader of the En Marche committee! from The Hague in the Netherlands. But when I returned home to Gard, I did not manage to find my place. At that time when my ecological convictions were becoming stronger and stronger, I also felt that the president was not moving quickly enough on the fundamental issue of ecological transition. I therefore got involved with Écologie au center, which works for a positive ecology, consensus and compromise, far from the punitive, inflexible ecology advocated by Europe Ecology The Greens.

Over time, the 2nd constituency of Gard became a stronghold of the National Rally. In this territory, do you really think that there is a place for values ​​such as the protection of living things, nature or even the environment?

Of course, for several reasons. Firstly because here as elsewhere abstention is breaking records. In our country, 45% of people do not or no longer vote. And among these citizens, many are concerned about their health, their quality of life and that of their children. As I said, ecology must return to the center, it is a subject that must be transpartisan!

What does it matter then that the RN breaks records in Petite Camargue, or that the outgoing deputy does not has never done anything to respond to ecological issues until now. On these lands too, people are receptive when we talk to them about short circuits, sustainable agriculture or even support for producers towards organic. This is indisputable and this is what I regularly see in our markets, such as in Saint-Laurent d'Aigouze very recently.
