Ligue 2: why will FC Martigues play some of its matches at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille ?

Le FC Martigues, tout juste promu en Ligue 2, va disputer une partie de ses matchs au stade Vélodrome de Marseille et débute sa saison ce lundi 19 août face à Lorient.

The usual colors of Olympique de Marseille will coexist for some time with those of FC Martigues. The Ligue 2 club, which validated its rise at the end of the last National season, will have to start its season 40 kilometers from the Francis Turcan stadium where it usually resides.

A return to normal expected in 2025

FC Martigues therefore had to find a substitute stadium for the first part of the season, due to the non-compliance with LFP standards of its enclosure. A situation similar to that of Concarneau, which played last season in Ligue 2.

The Breton club also had to leave its non-regulatory Guy Piriou stadium. The Sang et Or will not have to travel as much, however, since Marseille is not as far away, although they have encountered refusals, like that of Nîmes.

But work to approve the Francis Turcan stadium in Martigues is planned until the end of 2024, and a return to normal is hoped. In the meantime, FC Martigues will have to bear the costs of such a trip, although these have been validated by the DNCG.

FC Lorient, just relegated, will therefore return to a stadium where it will have the advantage of knowing a little more than Martégaux.
