Le Parlement européen et les Etats membres de l'Union européenne se sont accordés sur un montant maximum qu'il est possible de payer en argent en liquide.

While cash payment is becoming increasingly rare in certain countries, particularly since the health crisis, in other countries such as Germany or Germany ;Austria, it is still very common to pay in cash and without amount limits.

Until now, no authorized amount ceiling had been set at European level, unlike in France where you cannot pay more than 1,500 euros in cash.

Fighting against money laundering

The European Parliament and the Member States finally decided this Thursday, January 18, after two and a half years of negotiations, and agreed on a maximum amount of 10,000 euros when paying in cash.

This measure aims both to detect and limit doubtful transactions and to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

The application of these rules will be extended to the cryptoasset sector in order to guarantee traceability there too. They will also concern the trade in luxury products such as precious metals, jewelry, watches, as well as that of very high-end cars, private jets or yachts.
