Major cleaning of the canal banks

After collection, the waste must be sorted to better understand its origin.

Saturday March 30, volunteers met to remove a whole pile of waste thrown into the water and on the banks.

Saturday March 30, Voies Navigables de France, the guardians of Thau and its lagoon, the CPIE Thau basin and the resident committee of the Peyrade district met behind the Roger-Arnaud gymnasium for a new operation cleaning.

The City provided cleaning kits including burlap bags, gloves, bibs, pliers and waste containers. If the unpredictable weather scared more than one, a few courageous people crisscrossed the two banks of the canal and the adjoining wetlands to collect waste: around 1,600 liters of recyclable waste (cardboard, aluminum cans, plastics, etc.), wood, tires, scrap metal and a lot of polystyrene. Claude and his grandson Noé, 6 years old, were there: "The important thing is to give our children the right values from a very young age. Then they will keep this for the rest of their lives. In any case, that’s what we hope for!"

After sorting and weighing the waste, the volunteers shared a friendly aperitif provided by Voies Navigables de France. The fitness park was cleaned to accommodate the Easter Monday egg hunt.
