May 1

May 1, which corresponds to Labor Day, is the only public holiday for all employees, in the public sector as well as in private companies. which legally continue to operate on May 1 are those which still operate continuously, such as hospitals and public transport.

If you do not work that day, you will still be paid as a day worked. People who cannot be unemployed will see their salary doubled for the day.

May 8

Date commemorating the end of the Second World War with the victory of the Allies over the Nazi regime in 1945, May 8 is not necessarily unemployed. It depends on the arrangements made by companies, through collective agreements, company agreements or employer decisions.

If your company considers May 8 a non-working day, you will be paid normally without going to work. If you still go to work, you may be paid double, or have an extra day off.

Ascension

L’Ascension, Christian festival celebrated forty days after Easter which marks the last meeting of Jesus with his disciples after his Resurrection and his elevation to heaven, will take place Thursday May 9.

It is possible to bridge the gap and thus benefit from a four-day weekend, from Thursday to Sunday. However, this practice is not subject to any regulation. The allocation of a bridge may be provided for by conventional provisions, collective and employer agreements.

Work hours not worked due to the bridge may be worked at another time to compensate.

Pentecost

In 2024, Pentecost, another Christian holiday which commemorates the revelation of the Holy Spirit to Mary and the apostles, falls on Sunday May 19. The following Monday, the 20th, will be a public holiday, allowing you to enjoy a three-day weekend.

As for May 8, if your company considers Pentecost Monday a non-working day, you will be paid normally without going to work and if you work, you can be paid double or recover&nbsp ;one extra day off.
