A missile strike targeted Mossad HQ near Tel Aviv, Hezbollah claimed on Wednesday, September 25. In recent days, exchanges of fire have intensified between Lebanon and Israel, raising fears of a conflagration in the entire region.

The Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah, the target of strikes by the Israeli army in Lebanon, claimed on Wednesday, September 25, to have fired a ballistic missile at the headquarters of the Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence service, near Tel Aviv.

“The Islamic Resistance launched a Qader 1 ballistic missile at 6:30 a.m. (03:30 GMT) on Wednesday (…) targeting the Mossad headquarters in the suburbs of Tel Aviv”, Hezbollah said in a statement.

Missile intercepted

The Islamist formation added that the Mossad HQ was “responsible for the assassination of leaders” Hezbollah “and explosions from pagers and walkie-talkies”. The Israeli army announced that it had intercepted the missile fired from Lebanon.

"Following sirens that sounded in the Tel Aviv and Netanya areas, a ground-to-ground missile was identified coming from Lebanon and was intercepted by air defenses," a military spokesman said.

A first since the start of the violence

This is the first time since the start of violence between Israel and Hezbollah, the day after the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023, that the Iranian-armed group announced that it had launched a ballistic missile at Israel.

Since Monday, intense Israeli strikes have targeted its strongholds in southern and eastern Lebanon as well as in the southern suburbs of Beirut, killing at least 558 people.

These attacks came after several major blows for Hezbollah last week: deadly explosions hit the movement's transmission devices, and an Israeli strike killed 55 people, decapitating its elite force, al-Radwan, whose leader Ibrahim Aqil was killed.

On Tuesday evening, another Hezbollah military leader, Ibrahim Mohammed Kobeissi, was killed in an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
