Midi Libre Nîmes journalist Kathy Hanin rewarded by the Gard Press Club

Elle remporte le prix "coup de coeur" pour un article sur un squat sordide occupé par des jeunes migrants dans le quartier de Valdegour à Nîmes.

It was in the middle of winter, mid-January 2024, that Kathy Hanin entered this miserable squat: a former hammam in Valdegour where a hundred young migrants lived in the cold, without electricity, with only one toilet for everyone. In her report – the first produced here by the press – the Midi Libre journalist talked about young people, possibly minors, in states of absolute distress. 

An article that had consequences

The subject had then made things happen, particularly with the Department, responsible for the care of unaccompanied minors, which had been forced to rehouse them in more dignified conditions. 

On Thursday evening, Kathy Hanin received, for this article published in Midi Libre Nîmes on January 17, the favorite prize of the Gard Press and Communication Club from the hands of the president Estelle Henry in Bellegarde, at the Château Saint-Louis La Partridge in Bellegarde.
