Millau, distinguished for its quality of life, rises to 12th national place in the ranking of “Dream Towns”

This is something to make the people of Millavoise proud! And, perhaps, encourage those who do not yet know the city of the glove to come and take a look. And more if affinities… The 2024 edition of the Ville de rêve website ranking has just raised Millau to 12th national rank for its quality of life. Just behind Cahors, in the Lot, and in front of Amboise in the Indre et Loire.

This list imagined by the startup City of Dreams is intended to be exhaustive and complete. For each of the 35,000 French municipalities, no less than 725 pieces of data are used to calculate 19 thematic scores (quality of life, health, safety, access to nature, etc.) and, ultimately, the general score of each city.

Sport, leisure, education and health in strong points

For Millau this score is 85 out of 100. With real strong points. Starting with sport and leisure (89 points each), education (88 points) and health (80 points). Interesting, too, to detail the chapter on quality of life (70 points). The Dream City site says it takes into account both "weather, heritage, peace and quiet, accessibility to nature and classification as a priority district ."

Also interesting is the section called "In 2050" which attempts to make a projection on this same quality of life in more than one generation. And, like Nostradamus 2.0, the Ville de rêve startup anticipates an average of 2 scorching days, 6 tropical nights, 4 days of extreme precipitation and 24 days of drought on this horizon in Millau.

Downloads on transport and security

Rather comprehensive in the parameters taken into account in its classification, the Ville de rêve site obviously provides some nuances on certain themes concerning Millau. Thus, the worst score (37 out of 100) concerns accessibility and transport. "This is not a score on the quality of transport in common in the municipality or on accessibility for people with disabilities, because we do not have this data" details the site which calculates the times journey time, from Millau, to reach an international airport (1 hour 38 minutes), a national train station (1 hour 33 minutes) without forgetting the number of electric charging stations (17) and the number of taxis or VTCs (9). Concerning the safety score (45 out of 100), the site specifies having calculated it "from the figures for delinquency, road safety and emergency interventions.& quot;

Which still performs well in the rankings in the nature chapters (79 points), labor economy and dynamism (68 points each time). Without forgetting an important concept in these times of galloping inflation: the cost of living (72 points) calculated from real estate prices, the average cost of rent and fuel prices.< /p>

Anne, Millavoise since the beginning of the year, confirms, in part, the analysis of Ville de rêve. "The strong points, in my eyes, are of course the landscapes, a dynamic city on a sporting and cultural level and a warm welcome, without judgments." The thirty-year-old, who came from Val- d’Oise – "my native region" – to practice her profession as a social worker in the Department, known as "have no regrets. I take great pleasure in walking through the streets of the city center every day."

Rodez is ranked 52nd, Saint-Affrique 141 and La Cavalerie 789th

Same enthusiasm for Catherine, who arrived in Millau with her partner in June 2021 from Montpellier. "I have never seen so many associative activities as in Millau in addition to a cinema and a theater. This was also important to us. A hospital is also not nothing because some larger cities do not have this possibility."

The other towns in the region fare less well in the ranking game: Rodez takes a nice 52nd place (81.6 out of 100), Saint-Affrique is 141st (79.2 out of 100), and The Cavalry ranks 789th (73.7 out of 100). Montpellier only comes in 9808th (64 out of 100). Small is beautiful.
