A gathering was organized this Thursday, February 15, at 11 a.m., in front of the Beausoleil Post Office in Nîmes, at the initiative of the neighborhood committee. of people responded to the mobilization against the closure of the post office scheduled for March 18.

An open petition and planned actions

Among them, residents were present of course, but also Marie Ozil, president of the Marronniers neighborhood committee; Christian Bastid, municipal and departmental councilor and community councilor in Nîmes Métropole; Sylvette Fayet, councilor municipal and community councilor in Nîmes-Métropole;  Emmanuel Carrière, deputy delegate for Urban Development and Roads, president of the Costières neighborhood council, or  Jérôme Lacroix, staff representative CGT-FAPT(federation of postal activity and telecommunications), member of the public services defense collective.

The president of the neighborhood committee, Jean-Marie Habouzit spoke, admitting "very disappointed with this closure decision" . Recalling that, already, in 2021, "we fought when the post office had already been planned to close. We must continue. We must defend the interests of the residents of the neighborhood. We will continue to alert. We wrote to La Poste. We will circulate a petition and plan further actions." 

The justification for a drop in attendance is not understandable

Jérôme Lacroix subsequently announced that a first meeting of the collective for the defense of Public Services was planned for this Friday, February 16 in the evening. "We will decide on initiatives to prevent closure. The justification for a drop in attendance of -38% cannot be heard. It is organized by the company itself when it reduces opening days and time slots. We will try to bring the employees together and then mobilize the population", predicts the staff representative
