For the fourth time in a row, the Mondial du vent will host, from April 7 to 14, the only French stage of the Wingfoil World Cup at the Leucate-La Franqui spot.

The latest addition to water sports, wingfoil is now well established at the Mondial du Vent. For the fourth time, the World Cup of the discipline is organizing a round in Leucate-La Franqui as part of the famous event which celebrates its 27th edition from April 7 to 14.

The competition will see the cream of international riders compete in two formats: slalom and freestyle. In total, around sixty athletes from around fifteen countries will compete for victory in the French stage of the World Cup to hope to win the title of GWA world champion at the end of the year. season.

Second last year, respectively in slalom and freestyle, the French Titouan Galéa (26 years old) and Malo Guénolé (18 years old) will be particularly worth watching on the Aude spot as will the stage local Bastien Escofet . They will face competition from the young American freestyle world champion Christopher MacDonald (17 years old), the Swiss legend Balz Müller but also from the Italians Francesco Cappuzzo and Ricardo Zorzi.

As for the women's event, the French Orane Ceris and Kylie Belloeuvre will be keen to compete against the double Spanish world champion Nia Suardiaz.

What is wingfoil?

In wingfoil, the rider is propelled by a light inflatable wing controlled with handles. To move around, he has a board under his feet equipped with a foil which allows him to slide a few tens of centimeters above the water. Synthesis of windsurfing and kitesurfing, wingfoil is a very accessible sport. The discipline has experienced very strong development over the past four years. The Global Wingsport Association (GWA) is the association responsible for promoting wingfoil. She launched her World Cup circuit in 2021 in Leucate. This year, the circuit has 10 stages around the world.
