More than 300 people marched in Nîmes to oppose the immigration law, “a shame for France”

Among the demonstrators this Sunday, January 14 in Nîmes against the immigration law: representatives of associations, also elected officials such as the Insoumis deputy Michel Sala or the leader of the Nîmes left Vincent Bouget, but also migrants.

More than three hundred people participated this Sunday, January 14, at the end of the morning, from Carré d'Art to the prefecture, in a demonstration to ask the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron to no -promulgation of the immigration law. "I don't really believe in it but the Constitutional Council, on January 25, will release ballast on part of this law, in particular for the AME (Medical Aid of the ;State)", confides Roger Mathieu, figure in the Nîmes associative community.

The latter sees "the National Rally as the big winner with such a harsh law, very discriminatory with the national preference. But that alerts many citizens, associations, political parties. " This Sunday, in Nîmes, the Insoumis deputy for the 5th constituency of Gard, Michel Sala, also spoke to express his disgust and opposition to such a law.

Under the eyes of the leader of the Nîmes left Vincent Bouget, Denis Lanoy, secretary of the PCF section of Nîmes, described this law as "the harshest in over 40 years& quot; and saw the mark left by former President Sarkozy in 2007: "There is the trivialization of far-right ideas. (…) The Attal government gives pride of place to the Sarkozysts. The dikes were blown!"  Behind their signs on which they wrote in particular "liberty, equality, fraternity", migrants listened attentively.

Very precarious situation

Some people occupy a squat in Valdegour like a hundred young people in unworthy conditions. "With the law, tomorrow, it will be dismantled and they will find themselves even more on the street, in the cold, illegal", worries Roger Mathieu.

He is not the only one to be alarmed. The representatives of Ados sans frontières, Cimade, a Freethought activist, all pointed out the very precarious situation of undocumented immigrants. All asked for help. ;abandonment of this immigration law "a shame for France" and announced the march for liberty, equality and fraternity on Sunday January 21.
