Anger in the hamlet
#AVEYRON The inhabitants of the hamlet of Auriac located on the heights of the Tarn in Saint-Rome-de-Tarn have been angry since the creation of a new cultural venue below. This summer, a musical event hosted several groups until 2am and some 400 people came to enjoy the evening.
A collective was set up in the hamlet and the mayor was contacted. After the evening, a complaint was even filed. The organizer claims that he will only schedule parties occasionally and that he has the necessary authorizations. The local residents, for their part, bring up a slew of arguments: fire risk, disturbance of wildlife, drop in the value of their property…
Death of Pilar Victoria: still unclear
#BÉZIERS The cause of death of Pilar Victoria, a former volleyball player who played for Béziers, remains unclear. She was found dead on her bed on August 29 in Turkey after joining the Bursa club, where her teammates are still upset by this tragic death. The Turkish press has suggested several possibilities, including fatal food poisoning or medication, to explain the reasons, but none have been confirmed.
According to the police investigation, it was not a suicide or a murder, according to a journalist on the scene. Before her coffin left for Puerto Rico where she will be buried, a ceremony was held at her club to pay tribute to her. Her teammates gathered at her coffin, in the middle of the court. “Her relatives were very present. They made the trip here, reports Haluk Korkmaz, the coach. She really had a beautiful family, very strong." A room in the club will bear her name, so that no one forgets her smile.
Camille Verdeil, the last of Bir Hakeim is no more
#HÉRAULT While the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation were taking place this Saturday at the Bir Hakeim memorial, in Mourèze, then in Canet, a tribute was paid to Camille Verdeil. The last of the Hérault resistance fighters, who joined the army at the age of 17 under the clandestine name of Baillard, died at the age of 99.
In the magazine published by Midi Libre 80 years of the Liberation of Languedoc, he recounted these days of fear, deprivation and his first battles. The apprentice baker participated in the liberation of Montpellier “some embraced us, others applauded us”, he confided to us. The former resistance fighter was at all the ceremonies, concerned with the duty of remembrance.
The figure of the day: 2
#MONTPELLIER This is the place that Montpellier obtained in the Top 10, published by L'équipe, of French cities with the greatest number of professional team sports clubs (football, rugby, basketball, handball, volleyball, women's and men's).
With six clubs (MHSC and MHSC Women, MHR and MHR Women, MHB, MHSC VB), the Hérault capital is just ahead of Paris, which comes in first with eight clubs.
And if we take into account the urban area, Montpellier keeps its place in the Top 3 thanks to Lattes and its women's basketball club.
Andros buys Poulain
#OCCITANIE The regional group Andros (Bonne Maman Mamie Nova), based in the Lot, has announced that it is taking over the Poulain site in its entirety. A job protection plan was put in place and the factory was to close. The 109 employees of the chocolate brand will therefore not be laid off because Adros will maintain the current activity of the factory.
Expansion projects should see the light of day in the coming months. However, the Carambar and Co group should retain ownership of the Poulain brand. The Poulain factory was created in 1848 and today produces chocolate powder.
