We obviously know about feminism. But micro-feminism ? This term, which is spreading on TikTok, encourages women to make the world – and the world of work in particular – more equitable through small daily gestures.

What if we explored feminism in a more subtle way, with small changes that may seem trivial at first glance and concrete actions carried out on a daily basis ?

The concept is nothing new, but TikTok has found a name for it: micro-feminism. The term has emerged on the social network since the American Ashley Chaney talked about it in one of her videos, viewed more than two million times and which generated thousands of comments.

The film producer shares one of her tips for combating gender inequality, in a discreet way. She explains that she systematically puts the name of the assistant (when the position is occupied by a woman) before that of her boss (when the latter is a man) when she sends a professional email.

Simple gestures like starting an email with "Madam, Sir" instead of "Sir, Madam", give priority to women in conversations, use the term "humans" to talk about men, or not to push yourself in front of a man in the street are other practices recommended by micro-feminism.

Many women report misogyny in their workplace. The solution to this problem then lies in small acts and changes that a person can adopt, especially in their workplace, in order to combat gender inequalities.

"Rather than resorting to dramatic actions like burning your bra and yelling at people, it's these small gestures that annoy men," said on TikTok, Katie Wood, in a video on the subject. These actions also offer the most shy women the opportunity to act discreetly.

In response to the videos posted on this subject, many Internet users have also shared their little techniques. "If someone tells me they went to a doctor, lawyer, or any other specialist, I ask 'what'# 39;she said ?'" ; "I put up safety/cleaning posters featuring our staff in the workplace and always make sure to use the guys's images for the posters kitchen and toilets told to clean up after themselves" ; "I listed my husband as the first emergency contact at my children's school. My little revenge" ; "I write real estate contracts and I always put the woman's name first", can we read in the comments of the videos published on TikTok.

While these gestures may seem innocuous, seeing thousands of women come together to share them and discover new, subtle ways to regain their power speaks to a major shift over time, and demonstrates female solidarity as strong as ever.
