Une belle ambiance a accompagné les coureurs dans leur marathon par équipes de six. Un ekiden organisé pour la première fois à Mende.

Under the banner of l’Éveil mendois athletics, the very first ekiden organized in Lozère took place in Mende, this Saturday, May 25, 2024. At the helm of the ;organization, Mathieu Rissoan and Yannick Valinas were able to mobilize volunteers as well as participants for this event which was intended to be sporting, of course, but also festive.

The ekiden, a relay marathon in teams of six, with a route designed in the city center and passing through the most emblematic sites of the Lozère prefecture, lent itself well to the atmosphere, with relay passages, encouragement and healthy competition between the teams.

"Many Mendois are participating, including many who are not runners! There are in particular a certain number of business teams or other collectives, for example", underlined Mathieu Rissoan. Nearly 750 runners, more than 120 teams, were entered.

Atmosphere and emulation

Entertainment from the afternoon, music, giant screen… everything had been planned to best accommodate the runners, those accompanying them and the curious, and to properly receive participants from outside, mainly from Occitanie but also from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes .

The excitement was there, and the public was spread out throughout the course to support the participants.

And to wait for the last runners, an evening hosted by a DJ was planned on the Place du Foirail.
