New Popular Front (NFP) of Sète: a call to "structure" launched this Thursday, September 12

Lors du premier rassemblement du NFP à Sète ce 12 septembre place Léon-Blum. H.A.

Several dozen activists gathered on September 12, 2024 at Place Léon-Blum in Sète to denounce Emmanuel Macron's “democratic denial”.

A call to organize was launched this Thursday, September 12, for the first gathering of the New Popular Front in Sète. Several dozen left-wing activists from the French Communist Party and the Human Rights League responded to the invitation of Gabriel Blasco, departmental councilor of the PCF, to join forces to “act in a united manner as during the campaign” and this, in the face of”Emmanuel Macron's refusal of the result of the ballot boxes”, he hammered home. They all came to denounce the establishment of a Prime Minister from the Republicans, which constitutes for the left "a denial of democracy", or even for some "a fascist drift".

"The NFP belongs to everyone"

Responding to criticisms made by LFI in particular, François Liberti, the former communist mayor of Sète, urged "all popular forces on the “land” to join the local NFP which “belongs to all without distinction”, he said.“If we are united and not divided by factions, we can restore hope […] not only resist but have the alternative that was chosen by the majority of the French." The NFP of Sète wants to prepare to occupy the field, meetings are already scheduled. As on September 25 at the Théâtre de la Mer. Laura Seguin, municipal elected member of the opposition Ensemble pour Sète praised the work of NFP during the legislative campaign – "we were told that it was not possible"– and proposed to extend it with a view to an "alternative" municipal election in 2026.

Support, relayed by Gabriel Blasco, was given to the Bancs publics activist who was tried on September 12 at the Montpellier judicial court for violence against police officers and rebellion. “We must be vigilant about the criminalization of political action”, expressed one of his supporters.
