Nîmes est une ville où le passé et le présent coexistent harmonieusement. Riche d'une histoire remontant à l'époque romaine, elle regorge de monuments et de sites historiques qui racontent l'épopée fascinante de cette cité millénaire.

This summer, the Nîmes Tourist Office is offering a programme of guided tours that will help you discover, or rediscover, the architectural and cultural treasures of the city. From the Roman amphitheatre to the lush gardens and the cobbled streets of the old town, each visit is an invitation to a journey through time. Don't miss the Musée de la Romanité. Much more than a Gallo-Roman museum, the Musée de la Romanité, an archaeological museum, opens the eyes to the process of Romanisation of the territory and its mark over the centuries.

Ancient heritage

Labeled Musée de France, like the six other museums in Nîmes of which it is a part, it is the most important museum in the Gard and one of the most visited museums in Occitanie. This modern and interactive museum offers an immersive experience thanks to its permanent and temporary exhibitions, its 3D reconstructions and its digital tours. While exploring the historic center of Nîmes, you will be charmed by the Roman amphitheater, one of the best preserved in the world, where shows and concerts are still held today.

Nearby, the Maison Carrée, a perfectly preserved Roman temple, offers a striking testimony to ancient architecture. For a moment of relaxation, stroll through the Jardins de la Fontaine, one of the oldest public parks in Europe, where you can admire the Tour Magne and the Temple of Diana, vestiges of Roman grandeur. The cobbled streets of the old town are a real invitation to discovery.

Winding streets, charming squares

Stroll along the winding streets and be surprised by the charming squares and historic buildings that line your route. Art and culture lovers can also visit the Carré d'Art, a contemporary art center housing permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, as well as a media library rich in resources. Nîmes is also a lively and vibrant city, with its colorful markets, festivals and events throughout the year. In summer, the city lights up with shows and cultural events that enrich the visitor experience.

The arenas host bullfights and gladiator shows, while the squares and streets come alive with concerts, theater performances, and dance festivals. For foodies, Nîmes offers a rich and varied gastronomy. Don't miss out on tasting local specialties such as cod brandade, Nîmes pâtés, or Costières de Nîmes wines. The city's many restaurants, bistros, and cafés will allow you to savor these delicacies in typical, welcoming settings.
