“Not homemade” mention: ultimately, restaurants will not have to report dishes that are not cooked on site

Une proposition de loi visant à imposer aux restaurants sur leurs cartes et menus la mention "non fait maison" vient d'être retirée. Le projet divisait professionnels, syndicats et parlementaires.

It’was a "beautiful ambition" but the project will not succeed: a bill from the Renaissance group in the Assembly aiming to impose on restaurants the label “not made” house" on their cards and menus has just been withdrawn this Tuesday, March 19, report our colleagues from RMC.

The Minister for SMEs and Commerce, Olivia Grégoire, announced on October 22 that the 175 000 restaurants in France would soon be obliged to mention on the cards everything that is not "homemade", so as to &amp ;quot;bring more transparency to customers" and "reward restaurateurs who go out of their way".

The minister's office claims to have taken note of this withdrawal, and remains "available to resume work with parliamentarians if they wish&quot ;.

A text "written on the corner of a table"

The two largest employers' unions in the hotel and catering industry, the GHR and the Umih, expressed in a press release their "satisfaction" following the withdrawal of this bill. They denounced a text "written on the corner of a table", stigmatizing and dangerous for certain already fragile businesses.

Modem parliamentarian engaged on the subject of food, Richard Ramos believes on the other hand that the withdrawal of the bill was "bad news&quot ; and deplores that "the lobbyists won". However, he states that "this text will come back, I will resubmit it myself".

Other industry professionals claim to be in favor of a "specific, mandatory and harmonized display system, allowing consumers to clearly identify 'homemade' dishes of those not homemade, from industrial products"
