Occitanie: 2,500 tonnes of rocks on the road, or when rains in the Cévennes disrupt traffic between Gard and Lozère

Des fortes pluies ce dimanche sur les Cévennes ont entraîné des inondations de ponts et des éboulements. La RN106 reliant Florac (Lozère) à Alès (Gard) est fermée, ce lundi 1er avril.

Strong rains fell (among others) on the Cévennes during this weekend and until this Monday, April 1, impacting the watercourses between Ardèche, Gard , and Lozère, but also the roads and traffic.

2,500 tons of rocks on the road

Because this heavy rainfall also caused landslides and landslides this weekend. Thus, the RN106 between Florac (Lozère) and Alès (Gard) is closed to traffic this Monday, April 1 for heavy goods vehicles due to a landslide and the threat of a large rock likely to collapse onto the roadway. Heavy goods vehicles traveling on this axis in both directions are invited to join the A75, as for light vehicles, they must now go through the town center of Florac and follow the diversion.

DirMed has started work to clear some 2,500 tonnes of rocks, an operation which should last around 48 hours.

RN 106 is often subject to landslides, as in January 2018 or January 2019.

The RD57 south of Meyruès is also affected by a landslide this Monday and traffic is on one lane.

Bridges under the water

Coming after the snow, the heavy rains causing flooding also caused the closure of several bridges in Gard and Lozère. As in Vialas in Lozère or several submersible bridges in Gard, including 17 on departmental roads, notably in Dions, already affected by the deadly floods caused by storm Monica on March 9 and 10.
