In the second round of the Open Sud de France, the Montpellier player lost to the No. 3 seed: Félix Auger-Aliassime, in three sets.

In an overheated South of France Arena this Thursday evening, Arthur Cazaux did not come far from signing a new feat. On his home soil, the young 21-year-old player still ended up cracking under the blows of the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, 30th in the world (former number 6) in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-7.

"Thank you to all my loved ones and to all the Montpellier public who responded. I love my city, I love you, I will come back stronger, declared Cazaux just after surrendering after 2h47 of play.

Mayot next round

Aged 21 and 83rd in the ATP rankings, Cazaux was playing at home in Montpellier, where he received a hero's welcome after reaching the round of 16 of the Open d' Australia at the start of the year. In the first round, he authoritatively eliminated the German Maximilian Marterer (92nd in the world) with a score of 6-1, 6-3.

In the quarter-final, Auger-Aliassime will meet Harol Mayot, who defeated Benoît Paire, on Wednesday.
