Les commandos parachutistes de l’air, basé à Orange ont investi jeudi 10 octobre, le ciel de Pujaut afin de célébrer la saint Michel, leur saint patron.

The airborne parachute commandos, based in Orange, took over the skies of Pujaut on Thursday, October 10, to celebrate Saint Michael, their patron saint. A celebration full of memories since it was on the Pujaut airfield that in 1935, Captain Geille created the first French military parachute training center.

The paratroopers regularly return to honour their veterans. This year, the drops were made from the legendary Noratlas, No. 105. It is the only aircraft still in flying condition in the world. Delivered to the Air Force in 1953, this aircraft, renowned for its parachute drop capabilities for personnel and heavy equipment, has also served in many European armies and beyond.

The aircraft is etched in the memory of thousands of young parachutists

Its military career ended in 1986. It is etched in the memory of thousands of young parachutists who made their first jumps from this aircraft at the Pau Airborne Troops School.

This aircraft is based in France, at Marseille Provence airport, where it is the object of all the care of the association Le Noratlas de Provence. It remains a legendary device in the world of military parachuting. The day was punctuated by low-altitude rotations, for jumps with automatic opening and then with controlled opening around 4,000 meters.
