Parcoursup: the first answers have been received for high school students after three months of waiting

The first answers came a little before the scheduled time, around 6:00 p.m., for high school students who had been waiting for nearly three months. A key moment in the final year that has often become more important than the baccalaureate.

For Paolo, 17, in his final year in Nice, who applied for engineering or science preparatory classes, it was “relief” after "several days of stress, counting down before the big day with friends".

"I am 223rd on the waiting list for the scientific prep course that I absolutely want to go to in Nice and it is indicated that for this training, last year, they went up to 600th", adds the high school student. “I tell myself that it's doable”, he assures.

In Côtes-d'Armor, Eva, 17 years old "fingers crossed" for his first choice, waiting. She wishes to complete a Staps degree (sciences and techniques of physical and sporting activities) in Rennes.

"I'll check the progress of the waiting list every day but I'm 138th so it should work", the high school student hopes. "And if it really doesn't work, I'm accepted into Staps in Saint-Brieuc."

The platform, which succeeded APB in 2018, this year collected the wishes of some 945,500 candidates, compared to 917,000 last year. Among them, 645,000 are high school students, 169,000 are students who want to change path, 97,000 are people returning to studies and 34,500 are young people following foreign education.

For candidates, several answers are possible for each training: to be accepted ("yes"), to be accepted conditionally ("yes if", for university courses which require the student to follow a course of educational or personalized support), be on a waiting list or even be refused (only for selective courses).

"As of Thursday evening, there will be more young people and students who will have proposals, compared to last year& ;quot;, assured the Minister of Higher Education Sylvie Retailleau on franceinfo.

According to the ministry, "2.4 million proposals are made on Thursday evening on Parcoursup (compared to 2.05 million on the first day in 2023)". Later in the evening, candidates will be able to begin responding to proposals.

Have the baccalaureate

Candidates are often on waiting lists, which can change quickly: you must therefore consult Parcoursup regularly. Because this new stage is not the last for high school students. The process will continue throughout the month of June, and remains conditional on obtaining the baccalaureate, the results of which will be communicated on July 8.

Every morning, until July 10, candidate files will be updated according to the evolution of the waiting lists. Young people will be alerted by email and text message, as will their parents, as soon as they receive one or more admission offers.

When they accept an admission offer, high school students can also keep their wishes pending for training that interests them more.

The main admission phase of the platform ends on July 12. At the same time, the complementary admission phase will allow candidates to formulate up to ten new wishes in the courses which still have places.

"Some students will have negative answers. They will inevitably be disappointed but will be called, personally, tomorrow to offer them work to construct future orientation wishes, which will allow them to redo 10 wishes for the complementary phase", explained Ms. Retailleau.

Procedures to be carried out at the same time as the baccalaureate revisions. During the written tests, the deadlines for responding to Parcoursup admission proposals will be suspended (from June 16 to 23). A toll-free number is available to answer questions: 0 800 400 070.

L’last year, more than 77 000 candidates were still waiting at the end of the main phase, and 148 baccalaureate graduates were unassigned at the end of the complementary phase which lasts up to ;rsquo;in September.
