Anthony Jeanjean from Montpellier, three-time European BMX Freestyle champion, officially validated his ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday June 22 in Budapest, where he could fulfill a "childhood dream" : win a gold medal for France.

A few minutes after his fourth major victory this year (two World Cup stages and two victories during the Olympic Qualifier Series), the world number one returned to AFP on his state of mind one month before the "most important deadline of his career".

You wanted to secure this quota in the best possible way ?

Whatever happened, I had the host country's place available, but it was important to me to qualify in every possible way. I'm very happy to have this ticket for Paris, I can't wait to be there now, and above all I felt really good about the competition, so that bodes very good things.

You are having an exceptional season so far…

For now it's the perfect season and I intend to stay on this path. I try to give my best in training and in competition to achieve all the victories. But I keep my head on my shoulders: there is a lot of competition and the others will also be ready. So yes, we have to continue working because winning the World Cup is great, but the most important step is in a month. I will continue to refine, to prepare. But I'm very happy with my current state of fitness.

You arrive in Paris with the status of big favorite now, how do you approach this additional pressure to manage ?

This gives me confidence and allows me to see that everything I have been working on for several years is paying off. I'm going to try to use this pressure as a strength and see it more as a support. I tell myself that the entire French public will be there to share a great moment and that above all we all want the same thing, to get the gold medal.

What would it mean for you to go for an Olympic title ?

It's a childhood dream, it would be a consecration. I have built my entire career around the Olympics. I only train for that, especially this year: I only prepared for the Games. The other competitions mainly served as training. The most important test of my career is coming in a month and I intend to be ready.

You have long said that you are keeping things under control for the Olympic deadline, so we can expect something never seen before in terms of figures?

In any case, I kept some under control today. I didn't want to get injured, even a simple sprain could have ruined my preparation, so I didn't want to take too many risks. Yes, I have new tricks that I have never shown until now. I can't wait to see the park in Paris to see if I can use 100% of what I learned this year.
