The French women's team sprint team missed its qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris following the last round of the Nations Cup in Milton, Canada, this weekend.

It’s a disappointment but not necessarily a surprise for the trio composed of Mathilde Gros, Marie-Divine Kouamé and Julie Michaux who was the identified weak point of the French track in view of the big meeting on ’ ;quot;his" Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome.

Only sixth on Friday evening in Milton after their elimination in the first round by Mexico, the French were pipped to the post by Canada and left the Top 8 qualifying for the Olympics.

Gros and Kouamé will participate individually in speed and keirin

Mathilde Gros, world speed champion in 2022, and Marie-Divine Kouamé should still participate in the Olympics in the individual disciplines of speed and keirin.

Track cycling will take place August 5-11. The women's team sprint will be the only one of the twelve events on the Olympic program without French representation, since the women's pursuit quartet, which will be a candidate for a medal, has definitively validated its qualification by taking third place in Milton, just like its male pendant, also in bronze in Canada.

The men's team sprint, also qualified and able to compete for the podium in Saint-Quentin, took fifth place in Milton.
