Passage of buses on cast iron plates: fed up with local residents

Bénédicte Castor would like to warn today of the noise pollution suffered by the many local residents, like her, who live in the buildings on rue du Cirque-Romain. "I have to suffer, like all residents of this bus and trambus traffic route, from noise pollution emanating from their passage on the cast iron plates (Editor's note: used among others by the telephone operator Orange) which dot the lane reserved for them: how many plate breakdowns per day ?"

Without acrimony, after interventions, to date in vain, with the municipal services (technical, hygiene), Nîmes Métropole and Orange, Bénédicte Castor simply hopes "receive a real response to my steps started more than a year ago by a complaint dated March 23, 2023 to the hygiene service, in charge of the fight against noise." Bénédicte Castor, indicates that she relaunched technical services again last week. Excerpts… "Weary of war, of nerves worn out by the past summer, the next one which will soon arrive with the open windows of housing, I am addressing your service, dedicated to the quality of life and health of the inhabitants of Nîmes . The municipal noise control plan must not be an empty shell. It is with the hope that with the coordination of the competent city services, I am sending you this request to take into account and resolve the problem. This problem concerns the various signs on rue du Cirque-Romain and it will not be necessary to spend much time on the sidewalk of this road to measure the decibels and the nuisance to which the many inhabitants of this street are exposed from 6:15 a.m. . I tried several times to contact Orange on my side. Following these reports, an intervention which consisted of placing a small piece of cardboard on 2 plates ended in failure after barely an hour; it couldn't be otherwise, the cardboard couldn't hold. A few rubber hoses would solve our problem…"

Bénédicte Castor, notes, saddened, the ridiculousness of this situation, which nevertheless undermines the daily life of the majority of residents of rue du Cirque-Romain. A situation discussed in March during the general assembly of the Jean-Jaurès neighborhood committee: in response to a question, elected official Emmanuel Carrière, in charge of roads, promised to get closer to the telephone operator .
