Pavois and lances, a tradition within tradition for Sète municipal carpenters

As every year, the municipal carpenters designed the 270 bulwarks and 300 lances that are used for the jousting season, including the Saint-Louis.

When you say Saint-Louis, you say jousting. And when you say jousting, you say lances and bulwarks. More than symbolic: eminently indispensable. Maintaining a tradition that is also very established, it is the municipal carpenters who are at work designing them.

And the order is significant: no fewer than 270 bulwarks and more than 300 lances were made in the City's workshops in 2024, for the entire jousting season, including of course the Saint-Louis. On June 13, they were presented as they are every year to the seven societies and two jousting schools in the city.

Careful work

For municipal carpenters, the annual challenge is based on know-how. A functional element of jousting tournaments, each shield, each lance, is the subject of meticulous work and special attention on the part of Daniel Masto and his team. A tradition within a tradition that continues.
