Pink October colors the park of Lunel this Sunday to fight against breast cancer

It's the “good cause” event of the new school year. With Pink October, the city is taking on the colors, especially the colors, of breast cancer prevention and its fight. At the helm of the event, Dynamique Lunelloise has been keen to offer, for several years, meetings for the general public to raise awareness of the cause.

A cause in which Marie-Thérèse Séverac, president of this association of Lunel traders, is personally very interested after losing a loved one to breast cancer.

The importance of early detection

“It was my niece, she was just 35 years old, relates the president of Dynamique Lunelloise. This reinforces the message that we absolutely want to get across: get tested very early!, she continues before throwing out a few figures.80% of breast cancers detected through early screening are cured. And the target is women – but also men (1% of them are affected by the disease, Editor's note) – aged 25 to 50 who don't think about it. After this age, the CPAM automatically sends a screening summons every two years."

"A city committed and united in this fight"

A target therefore, but also information. "Many young women do not even know about breast cancer, much less how to examine themselves, do palpations", regrets Marie-Thérèse Séverac, convinced that mentalities are changing and evolving in the right direction.

But we are not there yet. This is the essential reason why each year, Dynamique Lunelloise, in partnership with the municipality and associations of the city, organizes several actions including a morning of events at Parc Jean-Hugo.

All morning and until 2 p.m. for all audiences

The 2024 vintage is no exception to the rule: pink will once again color the morning of the Lunellois in the municipal precinct, this Sunday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 14h.

“We must continue to make Lunel a city committed and united in this fight, underlines the mayor Pierre Soujol. With the investment of Dynamique Lunelloise, the town is making Pink October a highlight on the agenda of its commitment to its fellow citizens, combining public health, solidarity and a major event." And it will be again tomorrow with a range of activities for all ages.

Hiking, sales of goodies, pat-downs, information…

In addition to the start of the one-hour solidarity walk through the town (10 € entitling you to a bottle water, a raffle ticket and a Pink October goodie) at 10 a.m., the morning will take place entirely in the municipal park.

In the aisles there will be many stands for bracelet and calendar making workshops, football initiations, wooden games as well as many dance demonstrations (zumba, salsa, kizomba, oriental, country) and percussion in which it will be possible to participate.

Proceeds entirely donated

Products, goodies, umbrellas… will be on sale to benefit the fight against breast cancer for which volunteers from the Ligue contre le cancer, the Institut du cancer de Montpellier (IMC) and Hérédité cancer will inform and raise awareness among visitors.

Passage on a bust to learn the correct control gestures, informative and awareness leaflets, explanations and information on site will be offered, transmitted and disclosed throughout the event.

Finally, a large raffle (read in the box) will also be organized throughout the month of October at the end of which all proceeds from the various events will be donated to the Ligue contre le cancer and l’IMC.
