Around a hundred national police officers patrol the Escale festival in Sète daily.

An event like Escale à Sète requires a particularly important security system. Police forces from the department and beyond patrol the demonstration. "There are not only Sète troops, we received reinforcements given the context of the attack but also the crowds there are on the site", explains commissioner Fabrice Berthelon, deputy of the local police station.

Departmental security company, BAC of Montpellier, CRS, bikers, dog crew, national police personnel come from the entire area, also supported by a patrol from the Sentinel military force. "We patrol where the festival-goers are, but also in the parking areas at the entrances to the city. Our mission also consists of making traffic flow more smoothly by ensuring visibility", specifies the Sète officer. In total, the police security system can reach 60 to 70 personnel per day. A deployment that will take on a little more scale for the Easter weekend.

An advanced PC for firefighters

Municipal police officers are also mobilized on access to the city and on the site (yellow anti-intrusion barriers have been installed), but also on patrol. No major incidents have been reported so far, apart from a few late evenings that were a little too agitated.

The firefighters are also on deck with some 240 firefighters engaged during the six days of the festival. It is from the advanced PC installed near the harbor master’s office that the emergency services supervise the missions. The Sète firefighters are also present through their two first aid stations, one on rue Romain-Rolland and the other on place du Souras Bas.

At this stage, the results of the interventions only show falls and discomfort according to Commander Romain Sanchez. Firefighters are also ready to intervene on the water using their nautical units specialized in intervention on board boats. Like the Sète fireboat in the event of a fire on a ship for example. The public can also discover the activity of the SDIS firefighters of Hérault on the Escale site.
