Prevention, screening, research: the Nîmes University Hospital is mobilizing for Sidaction Wednesday March 20

On the occasion of Sidaction, information stands welcome the public, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday March 20, in the hall of the CHU Carémeau, and Thursday March 21, at the medical school.

More than 35 million people live with HIV worldwide. The infection is far from being resolved, contaminations continue and Sidaction Day provides a tireless reminder of the messages of prevention and screening.

"In France, despite considerable progress, new infections are still too numerous and each year, 6,000 to 7,000 people discover their HIV status. It is also estimated that 24,000 people are unaware of their own HIV status", explain the teams from the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department (Smit) of CHU.

6000 to 7000 contaminations per year

"While therapeutic developments allow people
HIV-positive people under treatment not to transmit HIV, irrational fears are also responsible for avoiding screening, for fear of a positive result and discrimination for patients, insists Professor Paul Loubet, head of Smit who carries out   clinical trials on the evaluation of new treatments and new routes of administration.

In conjunction with numerous partner associations  (Arap Rubis, Aides, l'Arène des Fiertés, Actions Stratégies, Codes 30 and CegiDD), Smit is therefore organizing an information day in the Carémeau hall, this Wednesday, March 20 , from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., allow everyone to test their own knowledge on HIV transmission, risky behavior but also on preventive treatment (PreP), treatment as prevention (TASP) and treatment ;nbsp; emergency (TPE).

The goal of the UNAIDS council is to eradicate AIDS by 2030.
