Property tax notice arrives this Wednesday: bad news for owners... it's increasing again

L’avis de taxe foncière sur les propriétés bâties (TFPB) est mis en ligne à partir de ce mercredi 28 août.

Some 33 million owners of an apartment or a house (57.2% of households in 2023) are affected by this tax, except for exemptions linked in particular to income.

And it is from this Wednesday that the property tax notice on built properties (TFPB) will be put online. The paper version will be sent to taxpayers by mail until September 20.

It is also on this date that the monthly payment will be determined. With a new increase in prospect. The cadastral rental value, which serves as the basis for calculating this tax, has in fact been revalued for 2024 by 3.9% (compared to +7.1% in 2023).

Why is the tax increasing ?

This increase will therefore be systematically applied. But it may not be the only one. In some municipalities, the increase decided by the community will be added.

Last year, the tax had reached levels not seen in thirty-six years, with a record of +52% in Paris, but also +25% in Grenoble. The increases could flirt, this time, with 20% in some cities, such as Nice (+19.2%).

But they should be generally more moderate, like inflation. According to the FSL firm, “81% of large city territories (34 out of 42) have maintained their rates in 2024”.
