“Psychology is not just brain juice”: at a conference in Montpellier, Christophe André gets his fill

Le psychiatre a multiplié les dédicaces. Midi Libre – DORIAN CAYUELA

The psychiatrist was Monday evening at the Zola media library for a conference and a signing session organized with the Sauramps bookstore around his latest book, "S’esteem and’forget" (ed. Odile Jacob).

"Esteem yourself, forget yourself, vast program !" Nathalie Blanc, professor of psychology at the Paul-Valéry University of Montpellier, drew out the "substantial marrow”, Tuesday evening, in the amphitheater of the Émile-Zola media library, which was packed to the brim for hear Christophe André talk about his latest work, "S’esteem and’forget", therefore, published by Odile Jacob.

The psychiatrist, who chose to bring in "all the important concepts"in this alphabet book crossed by what crosses our lives, fear, happiness, freedom, desire… hellip; and particularly emotions, underlines Nathalie Blanc, the host of the meeting, would not have denied the nod to Rabelais: & quot;Psychology is everywhere, and Freud said "Everywhere I went, a poet had gone before me". The great novelists, the great poets, have said in one line what I would have had great difficulty expressing, says Christophe André, who cites them at every turn in "Esteem and forget" : Balzac, Beckett, Christian Bobin, Alexandre Dumas, Descartes, Bossuet, Spinoza…< /p>

An "invitation to act"

The book, which can serve as a guide to living well, is deliberately a "patchwork" which also integrates scientific references, slices of life heard, personal anecdotes, Christophe André insists on this because "it reassures people, otherwise, they have the impression that we, we are always lucid, generous…"

Do not "idealize" the therapist, know how to hear and respond to our reactions so as not to close ourselves off in repetition, the book is an "invitation to act", summarizes Nathalie Blanc. Christophe André says it differently: "Psychology is not just brain juice".
