The Rail Pass for young people is a subscription at 49 euros per month, reserved for under 27s. It will allow unlimited travel on all TER and Intercités trains in France in July and August. It is scheduled to go on sale this Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Allowing travelers to travel at will on the daily train network, for a low-cost package: this is the principle of the Rail Pass.

It’is "in a sort of social pricing for young people to allow them to discover the whole of the regions of our beautiful country", explained Patrice Vergriete, Minister Delegate for Transport, on March 6, 2024, during questions to the government in the Senate.

This Wednesday, June 5

After months of discussions, the Rail Pass is finally seeing the light of day. It will go on sale this Wednesday June 5 on SNCF Connect and Trainline, announced in particular Le Parisien.

"That those under 27 can travel by train unlimitedly in France : in front of Hugo, I said banco ! The Rail Pass at 49 € per month becomes reality this summer. Where will you go ?", had posted the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on his account X.

What steps to take?

This new transport ticket will allow all young people under the age of 27 to travel unlimited on the TER and Intercités, including night trains, in July and August, for 49 euros per month. OUIGO Classic Trains, high-speed OUIGOs and TGV Inoui are excluded from the system.

After purchasing the subscription from this Wednesday, June 5, 2024, beneficiaries will need to purchase a ticket, free of charge. Sometimes, it will be necessary to reserve it, for the Intercités and certain TERs, those in Normandy in particular where it is obligatory, specifies Le Parisien.

Who supports?

The State will bear the majority of the 15 million euros of this Pass (80 %), the rest will be covered by the regions, underlines BFM . On the revenue side, 85% will go to local authorities, the rest to the State.
