Reactions after the defeat of the MHR in Pau: “The energy is not enough”, “we are not going to give up”

The Montpellier residents were beaten for the fourth consecutive time in all competitions, on the Pau field (31-23) this Saturday April 20. A result which leaves them stuck in 13th place in the Top 14.

Patrice Collazo (MHR manager):"We stayed in the match for a very long time but we had some slag which allowed Pau to get some air, especially in the second period. We give them points for free and the last try is too much. We felt in the second half that we were a little more dynamic than them. Energy is not enough in this kind of match, you have to be clean. We pay cash. We are in a complicated situation but we still have 5 matches. It depends on us. We had possession. The touch worked, we scored on a carried ball, we had opportunities. When we are in our situation, in terms of serenity and confidence, we don't tick all the boxes, we have to be super precise , that’s what we missed."

Baptiste Erdocio (pillar of the MHR): "Accounting, we didn’not do the job, even if we had a fairly consistent match. We lack confidence, we make a few mistakes and we have no margin. We have to bounce back against Perpignan which will be a crucial match. I'm not going to say that we are super calm but if we have to finish 13th, we will play this extra match with enormous guts. We're not going to give up."

Thibault Daubagna (scrum half from Pau) : "We made mistakes which left Montpellier in the match. We surrendered blow for blow but we were more united and consistent over 80 minutes to control this match. This is what made the difference. What counts today is the result more than the way."

Sébastien Piqueronnies (Pau manager) : "It’was crucial to beat Montpellier. Given the content, it could have been more delicate. The Montpellier possession is due to the failure of our conquest in touch. But the MHR countered us very well. We were under a lot of pressure. It had everything for a nightmare scenario so I am very proud of these 4 points. Tonight, it’s about strength of character and leadership, it’s a big match for our leaders."
