This reaction comes after a threat raised by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, currently traveling to the United States.

Donald Trump hopes America will “wipe” Iran “off the face of the Earth”, if Iranian officials assassinate him, he said Thursday, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu raised such a threat.

“If they “assassinate President Trump”, which is still a possibility, I hope America will wipe Iran out, wipe it off the face of the Earth,” the former president wrote in a message on his Truth Network Social.

“If this does not happen, American leaders will be seen as “cowards without courage””, he added.

A plot against the Republican candidate ?

On Wednesday, during his speech before the US Congress, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had stressed that “as we have learned recently, they (Iran) have even brazenly threatened to assassinate the president Trump".

According to media reports, the US authorities had received intelligence a few weeks ago that Tehran was plotting against Donald Trump. This had the effect of strengthening its protection.

These accusations were rejected by Iran, and described as "malicious".
