A new priest is ordained

#NÎMES – It is an event for the Catholic community of Nîmes. This Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 3 p.m., at the Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Castor Cathedral, Samuel Roux will be ordained a priest by Bishop Nicolas Brouwet. Samuel Roux will lie down on the ground “as a sign of abandonment to God”, in the presence of his entire family. The last priest ordained for the diocese of Nîmes was Father Nicolas Dumas, current vicar of Nîmes-Est, in 2015. On Monday, Samuel Roux will celebrate his first mass at Saint-André-d’Olérargues, then take up his post as vicar at the parish of Villeneuve-lez-Avignon.

#MONTPELLIER – That's the number of passengers per day on the lines of Tam, the metropolitan transport company, according to the FO union, which denounces a lack of resources to cope with the crowds, boosted by free transport. 10,000 riders expected on the Millau viaduct

#AVEYRON –Some 10,000 runners are expected this Sunday, September 22, 2024 for the seventh edition of the Millau Viaduct race, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. For the first time, two formats are offered to participants, one of 12.8 km and the other, classic, of 23 km, by the organizer of the event, Eiffage. Among the runners who will set off from Boulevard de l'Ayrolle, in Millau, we will notably find Mélody Julien. A member of the French Olympic team, she was at the start of the 2024 Paris marathon. On the men's side, Jérôme Bellanca, winner of the 100 km in Millau and crowned French champion of the distance four times, will also be at the start.

Very young suspects

#TOULOUSE – The hearings of the two young boys suspected of having dumped caustic soda on a children's playground in the Izards district on Wednesday, September 18, are scheduled for Monday. A 2-year-old boy is still hospitalized, with burns to his lower back and arms. Two children aged 11 and 12 were arrested and summoned to the central police station. Investigators, dispatched to the scene on Wednesday around 7 p.m., quickly discovered a bottle of soda in a trash can and were able to trace it back to the store where the product had been purchased. The hearings will help to understand the actions of the two young boys and their level of knowledge of the product and its dangers.

Six-month “suspended sentence” for the Alès slaughterhouse

#GARD –The Nîmes Commercial Court has just renewed the observation period for the receivership of the company managing the Alès slaughterhouse, until March 23, 2025. While the court authorizes the Société d'économie mixte des abattoirs Alès-Cévennes (under observation since March 2024) to continue its activities, observers are not very optimistic. This is evidenced by the advertisement published by the legal representative in charge of the case and looking for a buyer, which includes the transfer of a slaughterhouse activity. The health approval is valid until 2026, but work is expected. The deadline for submitting offers is set for October 21, just one month from now. Two options are possible: in the absence of a buyer, the liquidation could take place at the beginning of next year; if there are proposals, they will be analyzed. The buyer will be designated by the magistrates of the commercial court, on the advice of the liquidator and the public prosecutor.
