Resignations, players' strike, unpaid compensation: the crisis continues to shake SC Sète

A letter has changed, but for the rest? When the club filed for bankruptcy a little over a year ago, the most rational supporters hoped for a return to normal. After all, we had already experienced similar situations and the club had recovered.

Players' strike

But the wish to see this SC Sète stick to the simple proposal of a sporting practice was pious… The atmosphere is once again deleterious around the Louis-Michel stadium and, bad news, everything revolves more or less around money. Educators' allowances were not honored and the players, while waiting to be paid, simply went on strike last week. In September…

The 2023 balance sheet showed a deficit of €55,000. Since then, SC Sète has received the municipal subsidy of €130,000. A subsidy that is clearly intended for young licensees. The problem is that the pace of life could well be too high for a club whose first team plays in Regional 2. And the promises made to the players are clearly difficult to keep. It therefore seems urgent to react, probably through a drastic reduction in the payroll.

Two resignations that remain to be confirmed

Last week, the first team coach, Adil El Hasnouni, presented his resignation. Which was followed by that of the vice-president Stéphane Valdenaire. But the big circus still has a few acts in reserve since it is rumored that one or the other could backtrack.

General interest

Difficult to follow. This is also why a second meeting (after the one on Wednesday, September 25) will take place this Tuesday with the municipal representatives. To try to see clearly and save, once again, this very unique “Green and White” club. The current situation is not yet prohibitive, but two or three things may have to change. The interests, rivalries or more generally the attractiveness that this club generates should give way to the general interest. For young members who are more concerned with their desire to play football than with a track record that does not speak to them.

Certainly, FC Sète is part of the heritage. But we do not live on ashes. And for the reputation to remain, a return to calm is strongly hoped for.
