Rising temperatures could place Gard on orange heatwave alert

La chaleur va à nouveau concerner Nîmes dès ce mardi. Midi Libre – MIKAËL ANISSET

Mardi 6 août, des températures pourraient atteindre 38°C voire 39° à Nîmes et à Alès.

The heatwave weather warning remains yellow this Monday, August 5 in the Gard and this will probably still be the case the next day despite a rise in temperatures, both minimum and maximum.

Météo France also announces that it could once again place the department on orange heatwave warning, like others around the Mediterranean.

This Tuesday but also Thursday, August 8, Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10 could well be the hottest days with 38°C in Alès, or even 39°C in Nîmes and in the Costières with a higher feeling. The sun will dominate at least until August 15, although caution is required.

Risk of forest fires

The first measures to restrict water use have been taken in recent days. They could be strengthened at the next committee meeting at the prefecture. This Monday, August 5, the risk of forest fires remained high, or orange, in the Gard rhodanien, which means that any use of fire, camping, bivouacs are prohibited, access to forest areas is not recommended, motorized traffic is regulated (our edition of yesterday).

The areas of Gardon vidourle, Garrigues, Costières Petite Camargue are at moderate risk, yellow (camping, bivouacs possible depending on local regulations). Vigilance remains required.
