Rock-K Fest gets a makeover on its new site in Caux

For its 6th edition, the festival is changing location. Organized by the 100% volunteer association Rock K 13, it is organizing the festival for the first time on its own land, between Pézenas and Caux.

Founded in 2011, the Rock-K 13 association aims to promote music groups in the sector, through the organization of concerts and the provision of various technical support such as sound systems. "We are completely autonomous in terms of sound and lighting, which makes it much easier for us to organize without subsidies", says David Barrenco, president of the association.

It was in 2014 that the collective decided to create the Rock-K Fest, a rock festival prioritizing groups from l'Hérault. “For these two days, it is a group of 8 groups, 75% of which are from Hérault”, shares the president.

“We are 100% invested”

For 13 years, volunteers have been organizing concerts to promote local artists. Having gone through many changes in the current team as well as on the production sites, the members all remain driven by music and sharing, in addition to being 100% Héraultais. "We invest 100% in all projects. It takes time since we all have a side activity, but we know how to manage now", says David Barrenco. With more than 80 concerts, 6 festivals and around ten sound and light shows, the forty members are now experienced in events. With over 500 people present last year despite the rain, the team hopes to see as many if not more people. “Plus this year, we have a helping hand from the Caux town hall, it's rare to have support like that, it warms the heart “, smiles the leader of the collective.

A new exceptional site

With its new, recently acquired site, this year's Rock-K Fest promises to be completely different. "We have been preparing the premises since January, we have also recovered part of the land next door for the occasion to be able to park cars there", explains the president of Rock-K 13. Located on a country road, the land has been developed to remain as natural as possible. To match this motivation of preserving nature, the association encourages coveting as much as possible because of the limited number of parking spaces and has provided ecocups and responsible waste sorting. "This land is truly exceptional. We have a bird's eye view of the stage which allows a view from every point. Its location in the middle of the scrubland, in the middle of the vineyards, adds a magnificent setting”, concludes David Barrenco.
