The Winter Sevens takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Yves-du-Manoir complex in Montpellier. The opportunity to see the Sun7, rosy and ambitious Montpellier residents, play.
With their superb pink jerseys, you can't miss them. The Montpellier residents of Sun7 are participating for the second time in the Winter Sevens, the rugby sevens tournament organized in Montpellier on the annex grounds of the GGL Stadium, Saturday and Sunday.
Last year, they were already there and called themselves Thermo Staps, a name that reminds us of where the project started: "We started three years ago when we met through rugby at university, says Pablo Jezequel, president of the Montpellier club and member of the founding trio with Maël Nadau and Liam Chavanier. We started a university team and when we wanted to have jerseys, we created the association. Finally, we signed up for the Winter Sevens last year."
A first season on the Elite circuit
Over the past year, those who now call themselves the Sun7s have taken on a whole new dimension: "We have participated in several tournaments and above all, we collaborate with Oxytalis, a business school partner of the MHR, continues Pablo Jezequel. Two of our players, Mathis Modebadze and Julien Burgillos, have joined and are doing their rotation within the club. This allowed us to find partners and also to be able to count on several MHR Espoirs players."
For this new edition of the Winter Sevens, the Sun7 have decided to take the plunge at home by participating in the Elite tournament. At 10:10 a.m. this Saturday morning, they will face Toulouse's Seven Sud Garonne before two other matches at 1:35 p.m. and 5:05 p.m. "For the future, we committed to tournaments on the Elite circuit in Versailles, Toulouse, Berre l’Etang and the Med Sevens in Mèze, adds Jezequel who will be the coach of Sun7 this weekend. For the moment, we are the little thumbs but the objective in the future is to be part of the big teams on the circuit."
Especially the Sun7s don't plan to stop there. A women's team should emerge very quickly as well as a second men's team. History of promoting Montpellier rugby sevens on the national circuit for many years.
