Saint-Louis Festival in Sète: last blows of the lance before the big day

Le niveau promet d’atteindre des sommets ce dimanche. MIDI LIBRE – Jérôme Belluire

The middleweights are coming to the Cadre this Sunday, August 25th around 4 p.m. A guaranteed spectacle with jousters aiming for the Grand Prix.

This is, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated events of the Saint-Louis. The middleweight tournament has everything in store to please the greatest number.

Two serious customers

First of all, only 37 jousters are on the program, which allows you to follow all the fights without having to skip a meal. And, while waiting for the heavyweights (whom the two finalists will join on Monday), it is the cream of the crop that is rising on the tintaine. The best in the senior category, but also in the heavyweight-middleweight League championship.

Some of today's candidates, despite their youth, are indeed already part of the furniture in the premier category. Louis Liguori and Léo Causse, both from the Amicale des Pêcheurs Sète Môle, are also fine wardrobes. The first played in a final this season in Frontignan before winning two weeks later in the Canal des Quilles. The second, who has won everything in the youth categories, is one of the strongest fighters on the circuit. Liguori and Causse will be the two big favorites of the day.

A world behind

But being a favorite, even a big favorite, is not always enough at the Saint-Louis. That is the charm and mystery of the big events. It would not shock anyone, in fact, if Brice Giordano (LAS) and of course Steeven Herry (APSM), leader of the middleweight ranking and winner of the Pavois d'Or tournament this summer, came to overturn everything in their path.

No one would come to contest the legitimacy of a senior jouster either. Because some of them can compete. With four semi-finals under his belt this season, Enzo Baronetto (AJPC) can aim higher. Sandro Minarro (APSM), winner of the Lance Amicale Sétoise tournament this season, would have been a great winner if he hadn't injured his knee recently. Noah Roux (LAS), winner in Balaruc, also has some arguments.

And then there are those who know the taste of victory for the Saint-Louis. Enzo Girard (LSS), winner of the Welterweights in 2022, and his successor Alexis Perret (LAS), will certainly want to taste it again…
