Trained in Millau, the sculptor Rémy Teulier has once again distinguished himself by winning the gold medal at the Salon de la Société des artistes français in Paris. A must.

After bronze in 2019, silver in 2022, sculptor Rémy Teulier has just won gold with his Repos du Faune< /em>, masterful representation of the god Pan. A monumental sculpture torn from a six-ton block of Izouart marble after 15 months of work and 2,300 hours of effort.

Personal interpretation of the son of Hermes – "it's a bit like my mirror"enjoys the winner – represented with his horns, his beard, his pointed ears and his goat's feet, the sculpture has just been crowned on the occasion' ;nbsp;of the last Salon de la Société of French artists organized every year in Paris at the ephemeral Grand Palais.

"Nature never lies"

A tribute to classical sculpture and to his peers – Bartholdi, Claudel, Bourdelle, Houdon – who, like him, passed through the Royal Academy of Painting and of sculpture founded in 1648 during the reign of Louis XIV and of which the Society of French Artists is today the heir.

A tribute also to one of them, undoubtedly the best known, Auguste Rodin, to whom Rémy Teulier with his Repos du Faune  borrows from the pose, meditative, and from the strength that emerges from the Thinker, emblematic masterpiece of one of the fathers of modern sculpture.

"For me, the faun is above all an artist, the son of Hermes and of hermeticism with, in the distance, the philosophical mercury which allows lead to be changed into gold. It is also the god of nature and wild animals. Of this nature of which Rodin said in his will to the future officiants of beauty: Take inspiration from nature, force yourself to love it and always find it beautiful because she never lies.' "

Cultivate the unexpected

Lovers of ancient figurative sculpture and mythology, the Montbazinois artist trained with the Millavois master Roger Fabry also likes to distill a little modernity into his works. "I like to take these classic themes and translate their allegory into clothing or everyday objects, objects of today&#39 ;hui." Jeans, shirt and suspenders for the Repos du Faune, a sweatshirt , a pair of sneakers or even a tight skirt for his Angel of Liberty… Rémy Teulier does not forbid himself anything and like the famous ;Pan cultivates the unexpected. Divine.
