Second edition of the 10 km Run in Bouillargues: Mr. Mwangi’s walk

Tout en relâchement, Robert Mwangi franchit la ligne d’arrivée. Impérial. Midi Libre – D.R.

The runner of Kenyan origin flew over the 10 km organized this Saturday, February 10 in the Gard commune.

Within a few hectometers, he almost took a ride on some participants in the "hard" on the 10 km of Courir à Bouillargues (2nd edition), Saturday 10 February afternoon.

He is Robert Mwangi, 37, who gently swallowed the two 5 km loops in 32’52’’, at an average speed of 18.25 km/h (the specialists will appreciate)! "After 3 km, I saw that there were a few potential winners in the peloton, explained, having crossed the finish line and barely out of breath, the original Kenyan, record at 29’18’’ over 10 km road and 2h09’ on marathon. Since no one was moving, I waited a bit and then I went…"

And we never saw him again…

In the plain, around Bouillargues, no one saw him again – Vincent Touze (ASPH Triathlon Montpellier, 2nd in 33’31’’); Loïc Martinez (Croco d’Airain Nîmes triathlon, 3rd in 34’23’’). In the streets of the village, spectators furtively saw an athlete tumbling, wearing a fluorescent green tank top with a bib n° 1664.

"I hadn’t run since 2019, in Nîmes, explained the legionnaire to the 2nd REI. There, I am working on the medium term with a view to the Annecy marathon in April." If Mwangi is reassured about his form, others, on this 10 km of a race registered on the FFA calendar since this season (185 classified), had come to seek their qualification for the French 10 km championships (34).

Garnodier, winner over 10 km, without her dog

In the women's event, the winner Justine Garnodier (Running club Bellegarde) had a very specific objective in coming to Bouillargues: "I wanted to do a race without my dog (Fiji, shepherd Australian), noted, as surprised as she was happy with her victory, the member of the canicross section of her club. On the course, I hid among other runners (men) and settled at my own pace. I didn't even know that I was in the lead, it was only around the 7th km that someone informed me." < /p>

In the end, Garnodier was able to keep 24’’ ahead of the Spaniard Vicente Martinez, 2nd in 40’53. Valérie Tixier (Cap Melgueil-Sidas, 42’05’’) completes the podium.
