Le sujet de la mobilité à deux-roues a été évoqué, lundi soir à Sète, en conseil municipal.

Monday evening, in municipal council, the City of Sète announced its intention to set up a space for learning to cycle, echoing the national desire to learn for children aged 6 to 11 to pedal, via the program “Know how to ride a bike”.

A program for children to develop the use of bicycles in Sète

Envisioned on the plateau of the Biascamano sports complex, on Boulevard Joliot-Curie, the future course, with a surface area of 1,600 m2, will consist of two loops. It aims to develop the use of cycling in Sète, for which the main obstacle is the feeling of insecurity. "It is essential to teach good practices from an early age", insists sports assistant Hervé Marquès. Estimated cost of the program: €141,000, 50% financed by the National Sports Agency.

"It will take a huge effort to adapt the city"< /h2>

The opportunity for the opposition to recall how Sète "is not done" to accommodate bicycles. "You are forced to constantly break the rules, deplores Laurent Hercé. In some places, you are almost sure to get yelled at every time, either by pedestrians or by cars. We will have to make a huge effort to adapt the city."

"When you're on a bike, you're in trouble"

Sébastien Denaja points out the "problems of discontinuity" in the city, the "permanent hesitation& quot; and "the lack of signage". "You have invitations to take the streets the wrong way, dangerous areas like docks, bridges, and all shared spaces. There is a lack of simple signage on the ground to know where to stand. When you're on a bike, you're in trouble. The ground markings you made are already erased. I welcome the progress made, but there are some very dangerous places. There is work to be done on discontinuities."

Assistant for mobility, Vincent Sabatier indicates that the cycle plan is "under study" within technical services. "We are faced with great complexity. We are going to have meetings: there will be choices, we will have to debate together."
