She didn't have the reflex to call the firefighters: she contacted a neighbor in the middle of a fire so that he could come with a ladder.

Two women were saved from a fire by an elected official from their town as flames ravaged their home on October 1, 2024 in Chérancé, in the South of Mayenne. The local resident arrived with a ladder to extract them from the building.

“Can you come with a ladder ?” The deputy mayor of Chérancé, Loïc Verdier, woke up in frightening circumstances last night, reports France bleu. Fortunately, more fear than harm. A refrain that never gets old since the 19-year-old woman and her 79-year-old grandmother got out safe and sound, or almost.

Woke up in the middle of the night

“A rather brutal awakening”, disrupted the elected official's night. Around 4:50 a.m., he received a call from a resident of the town: “She told me in a panic, of course: Loïc, we are stuck with my little girl on the first floor, can you come with a ladder ?", he tells our colleagues.

The call from the septuagenarian, who had seen smoke in her house, allowed the deputy to quickly get to the scene of the fire.

He comes with his ladder

When he arrives on the scene – with his ladder &ndash The two women are trapped in the burning house. Confined to a room upstairs, they had the good instinct to caulk the door frame with a damp towel.

“When I arrived, they were both at the window, the grandmother and the granddaughter. “I set up the ladder and started climbing,” Loïc Verdier tells our colleagues.

He gets the sixty-year-old woman down before the firefighters arrive. They then take charge of rescuing the young woman. In total, twenty firefighters were mobilized to put an end to the disaster.

"They managed to keep their cool in the face of the situation", praises the deputy mayor. Slightly intoxicated, the young woman was taken to hospital.
