Hanne Mignon, 29, had the unpleasant surprise of receiving a fine of 184 euros for using her phone while driving in La Louvière in Belgium. But, she was absolutely not in that city at that time. However, the license plate number indicated on the fine corresponds to his vehicle.

The offense was allegedly committed on January 27, 2024 at 3:32 p.m. A police officer from La Louvière in Belgium allegedly came across the vehicle of Hanne Mignon, 29, and then noticed that she had her cell phone in her hand, indicates < em>Blick.

A true mystery

A few weeks later, the young woman received a fine of 184 euros at her home in Kerksken. The problem ? She never went to La Louvière that day. “We were at the Liedekerke ice rink. I even have photos and videos, she explains. “Liedekerke and La Louvière are very far from each other. How a police officer from La Louvière could have encountered our car ? It’is a real mystery.”

However, the registration plate written on the fine corresponds to that of Hanne as well as the type of vehicle. In the document, it is specified that the police officer noticed the offense, but did not arrest the motorist.

Hanne therefore suspects the police officer of having noted the wrong license plate. “When I received the fine, I’was extremely shocked”, she says. “I immediately contacted the police in Haaltert/Denderleeuw, but was told that I could only contest the fine.”

Letters sent to the prosecutor

She then sent letters to the prosecutor to prove that she had never been to La Louvière on January 27, 2024. “We sent proof payment to show that we were in Liedekerke, and we expected the prosecutor to correct the mistake, but that was not the case at all. We received a letter from the prosecutor telling us that we only had to pay the fine”, she explains to Blick.

The young woman then contacted her insurer, but their intervention may cost even more. “Since then, we have sent a letter to Minister of Justice for clarification on this subject, but I also heard that we were not the first to have this bad experience. This is why I decided to talk about it, I don't want this to happen to other people, says Hanne .

“If I had indeed committed this offense, I would not have contested the fine, I would not have contested the fine. would have paid directly.” The minister's office will investigate this matter. Hanne preferred to pay the fine to avoid having other problems later. “I hope they find a solution”, she concludes.
